NASA said the latest survey showed the number of asteroids that orbit close to Earth has doubled. NASA officials think this may be the result of a collision between two asteroids in the main belt, between Mars and Jupiter.
"The collision caused some of the fragments flew into orbit closer to Earth, it is ultimately became HIV-positive people," NASA officials said in a statement.
Principal investigator for NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Amy Mainzer said the team made was surprised by the number of people living with HIV are abundant. Location closer to the earth, providing the best opportunity to be explored further.
In 2009, scientists had predicted the existence of asteroids near Earth asteroids based on observations using the 107 launched by WISE. The mission was halted in 2011, after they had successfully mapped the entire sky twice. Before it is closed, the scientists agreed to conduct joint search for the existence of the asteroid, dubbed NEOWISE.
NEOWISE project was not originally included in the plan ultimately give surprising results. WISE telescope photographed about 600 asteroids close to Earth, and 135 of them are baru.Teleskop invention also features other objects, including distant galaxies and stellar nurseries. "The object that caught this helps us understand many things, including the origins of what and how this asteroid formed," said Mainzer.
During the hunt for asteroids, WISE telescope detected a stone a distance of about 120 million miles (195 million km) from the sun. By comparison, Earth is located about 93 million miles (150 million km) from the sun. Observations by the telescope is then combined with observations of asteroid the other data. The result, NASA announced it had identified about 90 percent of asteroids scattered near Earth in 2010.
