Japan's emperor and empress will visit Britain next week to attend the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II on the throne, the government's official statement said on Tuesday.
Akihito and his wife Michiko will arrive in London on May 16th and is scheduled to attend a luncheon hosted by the Queen at Windsor Castle on May 18, according to the Imperial Household Agency.
The 78-year-old emperor, who underwent heart bypass surgery last February, has allowed doctors to perform his first overseas trip since 2009, when they visited Canada and Hawaii.
This will be the eighth time the Emperor visited England, made his first trip when he was serving as crown prince in 1953 for the coronation of the queen.
